Your soul doesn’t retire when you do

This week as I am stepping away from my part-time job I have questions, fears and anxieties around “what’s next?” which is perfectly normal. And I’m asking, “who do I really want to be now?” … which is a soul seeker question.
It’s very humbling that I’m being strongly encouraged by my guides to take my own medicine and work through my own coaching process. Okay! I hear you angels!
This shift towards deeper self-enquiry is what I have witnessed in my pre-retirement and post-retirement clients. This is the thing that can be disconcerting. It can even feel a bit painful. Usually because we resist the unknown (initially).
And if you’ve never really answered those seeker questions … that can be daunting.
You spend years imagining retirement as the point when you can finally slow down.
No alarm clock. No boss. No endless list of things you have to do.
And then you get there—or begin moving towards it—and discover something unexpected.
You still want something.
Not necessarily another career. Not necessarily more achievement.
But meaning. Purpose. Growth. Something that feels like yours.
You can retire from your job.
You can retire from deadlines and KPIs.
You can retire from proving yourself.
But your soul work doesn't retire.
There may still be things you want to create, experience, learn, heal, contribute or become.
And that doesn't mean you're failing at retirement.
I certainly feel adrift at the moment, having chosen to end one of my key anchors for the past 3 years. And it can be tempting to fill the void with something else, because it’s uncomfortable, rather than taking the time to consider what you’d really like to be/do/have.
We've often been taught that ambition means striving, pushing and achieving.
But perhaps ambition changes as we age.
It might look like writing the book. Travelling somewhere you've always dreamed about. Developing your intuition. Starting a little business. Volunteering. Playing music. Making art. Deepening spiritually.
Or simply becoming more courageous about how you want to live.
One of the things that I realized I’ve not been doing in the past 3 years is reading for pleasure. Just frivolous stories that bring me joy. If I have read a book, it’s to potentially use the knowledge for a course or workshop. I used to have a huge collection of Nora Roberts trilogies. I loved the magic and the romance in those gorgeous witchy stories. Warm fuzzies every time, even the predictable structure of the story made me happy.
The other thing I realized I have not been doing is creative writing or drawing for fun. At one stage I was doing some colouring of mandalas, but I was filming them in timelapse and sharing them on social media, which took some of the joy out – especially because I was trying not to make any mistakes. Roll your eyes with me! 😊
It’s clear that some serious resetting needs to happen.
Resetting of our transition mindsets my friends!!
You can read a book just for the frivolous, silliness of it.
You can draw doodles on a sketch pad or colour in a mandala and not share it with META.
You can want more from your life and still want afternoon naps.
You can be deeply content and still have dreams.
Ambition and rest can live in the same season.
Perhaps the question during big life transitions and particularly after retirement isn't:
“What should I do now?”
Perhaps it's:
“What feels aligned for me now?”
What is your intuition nudging you towards? What have you been putting off? What feels complete? What are you ready to release? And what keeps quietly calling you?
And it’s really important to give yourself the time to consider and answer these questions. No guilt. No rush. No judgement.
That is where the idea of Divine Alignment comes in.
The Divine Alignment Code is the work I've created around exactly these questions—learning to recognise your own inner guidance, reconnect with the spiritual part of yourself and take soul-inspired action in your everyday life.
And I'm realising more and more that this work is about transition.
Menopause. Retirement. Children leaving home. Career changes. Relationship changes. Or simply reaching a point where the old version of your life doesn't quite fit anymore.
So perhaps retirement isn't asking you to stop.
Perhaps it's giving you enough space to finally hear what's been trying to get your attention.
What is your soul asking for next?
If you're curious about exploring that question more deeply, you can read about my Divine Alignment Code here. No pressure. Just an invitation to see whether something in it speaks to you.
